Dear Parents of Belleville New Tech:
Starting next week, New Tech students will have the opportunity to start earning honors credit for each of the subjects taught in New Tech classes. In order to earn this credit, students will need to engage in an independent-study honors project designed by the course facilitator in conjunction with the student. Our facilitators have been talking to their classes about the requirements this week. If your child is interested, there will be an informational meeting for parents and students on October 8th at 6:00pm in the BHS Mini-Auditorium.
We encourage all of our students to seek challenges whenever possible. These opportunities not only look good on college resumes, but also help our students to further master content standards and push their critical thinking skills. Every discipline has its own specific honors project (social studies, English, math, science) and is a deeper dive into the curriculum and themes of the course. Students can choose to earn honors credit in as many subjects as they choose. Facilitators must be notified in writing of a student’s intent to attempt the honors project by October 11 in order to take advantage of this opportunity.
In order to earn honors credit, students must maintain a B average in the class and complete all required benchmarks on time. By completing the project, students’ transcripts will reflect that they took an honors course, but it will not affect their grades or change their GPA scale.
If you would like more information, or would like to hear the project ideas from each facilitator, please join us on October 8th from 6:00-7:00PM in the BHS Mini-Auditorium.
